40 Day Journey to Self Realisation: CALMING

40 Day Journey to Self Realisation

Week 1: CALMING

The journey to self realisation begins this week. This 40 day journey will take you through the stages of practice to reverse engineer the decent of consciousness and create the best opportunity for you to discover that part of yourself which is inherently joyful and free. It all must start with calming.

In the western world yoga is considered a form of exercise but it is much more than that. Even the form of yoga asana in the western world has become so stimulating with heated rooms, loud music and constant vigorous moving. Taking us away from the calming, parasympathetic nervous system and the right side of the brain.

The Yoga Sutra by Patanjali is all about the mind, the word asana only gets mentioned in there only four times. One being in a list, then how to practice it and then master it. Less poses, longer holds with steadiness and ease.

What the majority of society needs right now, not what they want, is to calm down.

When we understand the energetics of asana and the breath we can start to cultivate particular flavours of energies and or help ourselves calm and still our mind. Forward folding is the king of creating a calm and focusing on longer exhales creates a langhana effect as well, a calming of energy.

A big tall sky scraper needs solid foundations to be built. A work of art needs a clean canvas. Anything decent wanting to grow needs a good clean, solid place to begin.
