THE TANTRIC YAMAS & NIYAMAS: ASTIKYA
The Tantric Tradition practices the Yamas and Niyamas of the yoga tradition. However, the Tantric orientation is more towards energy and power, and therefore an additional set were created as a safeguard against empowering the ego.
We looked at the Yamas prior to our 40 Day Journey to Self Realisation. Interestingly enough, the first Niyama that we look at this week is called ASTIKYA, which translates as ‘faith in Real or Higher Self’. A perfect follow on from the journey to help solidify the new self that we have discovered.
We are multidimensional beings, and yoga helps us to discover and understand that. Before we get to experience the depths of our being, we must have faith in knowing that it’s there. It can be challenging to look past our physicality and this three-dimensional realm. We usually identify and get caught up in the part of us we can touch and feel, how we look, what we have, etc.
When we can tune in to the more subtle layers of self, we find our Energetic Body and then our Mind. There’s a part of ourselves that witnesses all of that, and when we can operate from that place we’re not pulled around by the denser parts of ourselves, or our conditioning and patterning. Our life will be filled by more joy, love, grace, peace, and ease.
